A Monster Wants My Soul & the Empire Wants Me Dead
“Aren’t you the least bit curious?” he asked me, “I sure am.”
His smile gave me chills.
“Curious about what?”
“What it would be like to be on the arm of someone of power.”
“I want nothing to do with you.” I spat.
“You don’t have a choice in the matter,” he laughed. “Your soul will be the ambrosia I’ve been looking for and someday I’ll savor the taste of it as you die.”
“You’re lying. You didn’t choose me. It was just stupid chance I was there that night.”
His eyes flashed with annoyance, “I have higher standards than that I’ll have you know.”
“Get out of my house,” I growled.
A corner of his mouth turned up in pleasure, “I’ve been toyed with many times before Miss McKenna. The only difference is that you got away with it. Who knows if you’ll be lucky enough to do it again.” he tried to offer me the card again, but I refused to take it, so he set it on the back of the sofa with arrogance that I would want it later.
“Is that a threat?”
“Of course not,” He grinned. “I would never threaten someone of interest to me but I would like to offer you a thread of advice if I could,” He caught my gaze again and this time held it with such a fierce intensity I felt every fiber of my being grow hot. “I don’t accept defeat. When I am presented with a challenge, I pursue it until it has become my conquest. Accepting defeat is for the weak.”
I edged towards the doorframe, not daring to turn my back on him. I didn’t answer until I was hugging the doorframe. “I’m not a conquest. I want you to leave and don’t ever come back to my home again or I will press charges against you.”
“Charges.” He cackled while sneering at me. We both knew it was an empty threat. I couldn’t call the military. I didn’t want to die.
